  • Burnishing of steels :

Burnishing, also known as tanning, is a technique of blackening steels by hot oxidation in a strongly alkaline medium and allowing an improvement of the corrosion protection after deposition of a protective fatty film.Burnishing does not alter the dimensions of the treated parts.

Example: burnishing of guns, screws and springs, etc…

 

  • Burnishing of brass, copper and bronze :

Burnishing is also applied to copper to obtain a decorative appearance. The yellow brass is blackened, then a brushing allows to find the original color in rubbed places and a final protection by a transparent varnish blocks this old look. Also allows the blue shades, blue green, light brown by varying the parameters.
